From the memoir (extract)
-My parting from my mother involved all sorts of unpleasant things I want to forget, to put out of my mind. However, armed with that feeling, I ignored the opposition of my grandmother and my relatives to marry my aunt's younger brother, who brought me to Hokkaido. Thinking of it now, it was a very rash thing to do. I could only do it because I was so young and wanted so badly to get away from Hiroshima.-
From the memoir wrote by Michiko Saitou

-The search was a series of terrible ordeals, but then, when they came to a certain place on the bank of the Motoyasu River, my mother had an intuition. "She might be over there," she said. My parents turned toward the river and absolutely miraculously walked right over to my sister's body.
Two days earlier, the evening of the bombing, my father had walked very close to that spot.
She was lying with her classmates and, thinking of them, she just could not be the only one to say, "Father, I'm over here. Help!" The fresh blood that poured out when she was in her mother's arms was her way of saying, "I was waiting all this time."-
