Exhibit content
This exhibition presents the A-bomb memoirs of those who were begged for water from the heavily injured.

From the memoir (extract)

- A crowd of injured people was milling around the brick warehouse of the clothing depot, which served as an improvised relief station. "Water! Water! Water, please!" Their shouting voices echoed throughout the brick warehouse. In the midst of the clamor, a stern-looking officer cadet with a shrill voice warned, "If you give them water to drink, they'll die! Do not give them anything to drink!" Thus, I could not give anyone a drink. Everyone else who provided nursing care, while expressing great pity toward the injured, was helpless as well. Why couldn't we give them some water to drink? Even now, I grieve over that.

- He said, "Excuse me, but please give me water." I remembered that they said not to give burn victims water or they would die. But looking at his face, I sensed that he no longer had the strength to live. Resolving that I had to fulfill what might be his last request, I ran to the kitchen and brought him water in a cup.
